4 weeks out of hibernation, a nest...

rattay Apr 06, 2004 08:18 PM

Butter, my largest Eastern Female began digging around 8pm tonight, just 4 weeks out of a 5 month hibernation. This is the first time she has nested while with me. I don't have too much history on her but I assume she has nested many times before. At 5.75"/620g, she's not a small girl for an Eastern Boxie.

Yes, there are turtles buried all around her. Sort of a precarious choice for a nesting site. Ironically, pappa is being used as a footstool during the nesting process (just behind her). Who says turtles aren't paternal?!

Wish her luck!

But last night, late sometime, she produced these four perfect and good sized eggs. Hopefully we'll have 4 healthy hatchlings in June.
