four sides

JIM240 Apr 06, 2004 08:52 PM

my four sides are made up of brick, and the glass. i have 3 bricks for the outer sides and the inner side ( from the entrance ) is the glass. is that okay? can i just use a shoe box for the incubator? i'll look for perlite and vermiculite tomorow. do they NEED it or is it just like something to add? besides those plants is there anything else like holding it in place? so, first it's in the shoe box, then a plastic cup?, then in perlite? it that order just about right? should i put the plants and eggs in a plastic cup?? Sounds good...the Perlite or Vermiculite is not a plant...where did you get that idea LOL...

In this pic, I used Perlite...notice, I just barely set the eggs on the surface of this stuff...just buried enough to keep them from rolling around...I used a lid with a hole in the top about the size of a nickel...

You could leave this out at room temp, and they will probably still hatch, but it could take a lot longer. Feel the top of the fluorescent light where your fish are...if it is warm in one spot, I would sit this deli cup with the eggs on this warm area. If your eggs start to wrinkle, add a tiny bit more water around them, and they should perk back up.

These pics are from last year.

that stuff aint a plant?? wow i thought it was. i don't know, but i feel like i'm not doing something that i should be. i think i'm wrong about the eggs, i don't think she'll lay for awhile. but when she's ready, i am, i got her nest set up. Kane's being weird though. i looked for eggs before. he came running over. i think he thought it was a cricket. i think he might've been defending the eggs, maybe, but i forgot to take them out while checking. what exactly is a deli cup? is it a plastic container? if any readers think i'm doing ANYTHING wrong, please tell me i can not affort to do something wrong for the eggs. isn't a deli cup just a plastic cup that you would use at like a picnic or something, like Dixie brand cup? that is what it looked like in the picture.

Yea, deli cups are just that...cups you get stuff like Potato salad and stuff in at the grocerie store. I have used butter containers and other like-size type of containers...basically anything plastic that will hold a few inches of Vermiculite. I prefer something clear, as it enables you to see in better.
