Shy and aggressive ?

Mizar 21 Apr 06, 2004 09:16 PM

Tonight i put my hand in his enclosure for the second day, (i have for about 8 days now). He run for cover ! , but when i try to put some water in his humid hide, he attack the dropper ! Now, should i wait a little longer before handling him ? And running for cover like that, if i want to pick him up, i will have to get all of his hide out...Wont that stress the hell out of him ? And when i pick him out, should i keep him even if he bite and fight back ? Well, a lot of question

If i were you, i wouldnt just start trying to grab them. I never grasp my geckos and never have. I always just put my hand flat, even if they're in their hide, and let them explore. It may take a week or two of doing this before they walk on your hand. When they do, you can pick them up. Then they learn that when you hand is laid flat, they get to come out and have fun. This also minimizes the risks of one dropping its tail and reduces stress on your lizard. You can also try and bribe them out with a mealworm in your hand. Sooner or later, they wont be able to resist and will come get the food. This takes patience, but since i own several birds, patience comes easy now.
