WTF/ toad compatibility?

marcantony Apr 06, 2004 09:32 PM

I am in the process of setting up a 30 gallon vivarium for 2 WTFs,which I have yet to purchase. I would also like to keep a toad for scenting purposes, for my western hognoses. Is there any problems with keeping a common toad (like Bufo americanus) in the same tank with the WTFs, as long as the toad is larger?

Generally, one should always be precautious about placing any wild caught animal in with any other animal, assuming this toad wasn't captive bred. However, toads generally would not bother the frogs. But why would you place a tropical, New Guinea and Australian native animal with a cold temperate, ground dwelling amphibian? I would just set up an inexpensive 10 gallon terrarium or better yet, a 15 gal or 20 long for a toad.
