Morelia guy thinking about getting some Rhacos...Diet questions

AnthonyCaponetto Feb 10, 2003 03:29 PM

First off, I know this probably gets asked once a week, but with the new forums, I don't have a bunch of old threads to read through.

I hate crickets. I really, really hate crickets. They stink, yada, yada, yada...But, I know that the protein is important for the gecko.

So, I was wondering how a pair of Cresteds would fare on the new "T-Rex Crested Gecko Diet," which has quite a bit of protein in it, along with some freeze dried crickets. I know that p/k crickets (that sounds funny) don't work so well with animals that are exclusively insectivors, but with Cresteds eating fruit, etc., I wouldn't anticipate that they would mind.

With these two food items being available, do I really need to keep live crickets around? If so, what's the benefit?

Mine are doing fine on it.Right now I have tw0 hatchlings on it and one Female (laying). It was formulated as a complete diet so there is no need for cricket fresh or freeze dried. You can find out more info and ask questions at Allen's forum.
good luck,

I have been using the CG Diet for a while now, but I still like to throw some crickets in there every now and then. I just pick up a few dozen crickets whenever I'm by a petstore, and I'll feed them a few crickets till I run out...then straight back to the diet.

I think the diet would work fine by itself, but I have noticed that the movement of live food stimulates them to eat more, which translates into quicker growth. Mine are all young, so I want them to eat up, so that they'll grow faster. For adults that are pretty much done growing, I think the diet is going to be sufficient by itself.
