strange object from green anole...?

el_toro Apr 06, 2004 11:43 PM

My female green anole has been looking under the weather lately for several weeks - ever since I tried that ill-fated fogger in her enclosure. Since I took that out and went back to her old setup, she has been very dark and won't eat. If she is eating, it's not much at all.

Yesterday, there was a glob of something on one of the plants. It didn't look like an egg, but was about the same size. It was kind of slimy at first and lumpy. Now it's dried and has sharp, irregular edges. It's mostly white and looks like chalk or rock. I have no idea what this thing is, but it appears to have come out of Leeloo, one way or another. Odd thing is, she ate today and is looking better. She's my first female anole, so I don't know if there's other objects to come out besides eggs... Anyone know what this could have been?

Probably an unfertilized/defective egg. She may have benn egg bound which would cause the health problems.

Thanks - is there something that tends to cause that? Something I can adjust in her diet or environment so it doesn't happen again?

Make sure that you supplement EVERY feeding with calcium once you suspect she might be pregnant. Also, you can vary her diet with several different species of prey insects and dust with vitamins every other feeding.
