The Idiots that work at some "Big" pet stores.....

psychoninja Apr 07, 2004 12:29 AM

OK so i was in one of the giant nation wide pet stores the other day and came across a site that would maek any of you cringe. I walk into the reptile section and there was a clerk trying to get a garter snake out of its take for a little girl, The clerk was obviously afraid of snakes but wouldnet let me help her get it out. After about 10 min of watching this little lady try to grab the snake she finally ask me for some help, so i reach in and pick up the snake no sweat. Now comes the worst part. The snake looked full grown so it was probubly close to 3 feet long, she hands me one of those plastic cages that are clear on the bottom with the neon color on the top. the cage was maybe 24 inches long 10 wide and like 6 inches tall, and she had already talked the little girls parents into buying every expesive decoration that she could cram into the little tank. I don't think i could have even fit the snake in there. So I showed them a much better set up for the snake and so that they could actually see the snake and gave them some general snake knowledge with i could tell the clerk did not know. I just wish i knew some spacifics about garters but oh well I did a good deed for that family and the snake, and showed up a "professional" while i was at it.

WOW! Good for you! That person should not be working there in the reptile section. Did you say anything to the manager? Also people need to do their homework before they get a snake or reptile. Sounds like the people who bought it have no idea on how to care for a snake. That is a shame as it's the animal that suffers.

Definition of a " store Professional"

Some one who really needed a job....

Kinda sucks that the store was unwilling to hire someone with experience, but then they would have to pay a decent salary..........

I live in upstate New York and Theres this pet store owned by one guy he doesnt have any workers ofr him or anything but i wont go there again i went there once the other day and that was it i couldn't stand to see what he was doing to the poor animals! There's a reptile room and you walk in there and the snakes in there look liek they are looking for food, no water and he had a really really nice albino red tail full of mites! the leoaprd geckos were straving you knwo how there tails are suppsoed ot be fat well they were alot smaller than there body and the bones were sticking out and all the cages looked so dirty and in the fish tanks there were dead fish floating around and dirty in there too and everything was dirty and hungry. Well i called around to a few city animal places so hopefully he will have to close and they will take the innocent animals. It was so sad

Big time stores like the one you mentioned do this because its cost effective. If everyone buys their crap they stay in business. Unfortunately this does no good for the animals or the consumer. All big business is guilty of this and you were right to step in.
