Hello.
Do any of you know what time of year green anacondas mate, in their natural habitat? And how long time is there from mating to the babies arrive?
Thanks Jonas

In their natural habitat, greens mate during the dry season which is during our late fall and winter I believe. In captivity, breeding usually peaks from March through May based on our experience and that of others. Our breedings have shown a gestation period of around 220 to 230 days on average. NERD shows 115 to 135 days on it's care sheet site which is either a typo or a calculation error. The site should also probably revise it's maximum length figure for greens, as that has been proven highly debatable in light of more recent information.

You said that the size should be changed, So what would you change about it? male 8-10 or females 16 ?? Oh did you get my last E-MAIL?? my computor has been acting up a little.
Eric,
I was just referring to the figure they had listed as the maximum recorded size for the green anaconda. This is the famous Robert Lamon specimen that he reported being killed by him in about 1940, on the Meta River in eastern Colombia. When he was questioned about the incident about 15 years later, he was unsure of the actual measurement, as he couldn’t remember the exact number of surveying rods he used to measure the snake. That put doubt in the minds of a lot of professional herpetologists, and I find it hard to believe that he had trouble remembering the size of possibly the largest snake in recorded history. According to the story, they left it on the river bank and came back a few hours later to skin it. When they returned, the anaconda was gone. Apparently having only been stunned by the initial gun shots. From reports of this last conversation, it appears highly likely that the anaconda was around 25 feet and not the reported 37.5 feet. Even 25 feet, however, would rank it up quite high as a very large anaconda. It’s an interesting story. The current record is supposedly around 29 feet and that was from decades ago. I'll check my e-mail again. Thanks,
Kelly
You have large females, so how big have yours gotten? lenght and weight if you could. And that snake of Rich, the one he had on his shoulders, how often would you say they get that big. I would be scared to death of one that big.
The largest green I have came from Jud a couple of years ago, and she is around 13 to 13.5 feet, and close to 100 pounds. I don't remember which photo of Rich you're speaking of but you can expect a female green to reach at least 15 feet in captivity under the right conditions, but it will take a fair number of years. It would probably take decades to get a female up near 20 feet, and that would be if the genetics were there and the conditions were perfect. Males will typically be in the 9 to 11 feet range depending on genetics and feeding regime.

the snake i believe he is talking about is posted a bit lower but the green was said to be 5 years old and it was indeed huge and looked well over 100 lbs.
