I don't know why Ember went down In jan but she came right back. SHe was the only one to have any problems since I switiched them over. They have been more active then I ever knew uros would be. They clean their piled up plate every day (before they would only pick at it ever few days). I plan on putting the three of them in a 125 gallon tank soon. And I plan to continue using the dirt mixture. As far as adding water to it, I did that at first but found it wasn't really needed because when the clay in the mixture dries out, it holds shape very well. I don't have weights or measurments for april yet. I'll be doing those soon. Anyhow, just thought I'd share my finds with everyone. A Big thanks to Pro Exotics for the idea of using dirt!

From the barn where my horses are. My Trainer got it to use in the stalls but it didn't work out and she has a TON left that She's not gonna use. It's the kind of clay that people make pots from. Very good stuff. No additives or anything. When It dries out, it get's hard. But the other things mixed with it keeps it from getting to hard to dig in. The clay acts as a binder and holds whatever shape the uros make. Works quite well too! LOL

I'd like to get the same stuff if I can. I currently have Ra on an organic potting soil mixture (contains peat humus, peat moss, sand, vermiculite, perlite, and no additives) and extra playsand. If I add the clay to it, it'll hold burrows well without the need for water.

Thanks

She got it from a land scaping place. Try going to your local land scaper and say you're looking for clay. They might look at you a little weird as most people want to get rid of clay, not add clay. LOL But He might be able to point you in the right direction if he doesn't have any. She got a couple tons of it dumped on her. Where are you located? If you're anywhere near us, maybe you could come take some? She just wants to get rid of it now. She's gonna have it pushed into a ditch soon just to move it out the way. So I've been taking bucket loads every weekend before she does that. I'm sure she wouldn't mind you taking some too.... So, where are you? LOL

If so, are you near the Toronto area?
If not, thanks anyway, it would cost too much to ship something that heavy.

Thanks for the tip about landscaping companies

Hi Heather,
Are you near Monroe NY? If you are going to throw away the clay mixture and if you are close enough, I will gladly take some if you are still offering it. I am about a hour or so north of NYC. What town are you in?

We're not too far away at all! She's in Wallkill, NY. It's just the clay, not the mixture that she has. I mixed the other stuff with the clay I took from her... I'll tell her about people interested in the clay and see if she minds (I already know she won't but Just so she knows...)After that, I'll give you the exact addy... E-mail me so I have your e-mail so I can send you the addy... k?
