dart frog light/ feeding questions, any help appreciated

smckenna9 Apr 07, 2004 10:24 AM

hi,
i plan on getting one leucomela, tinc, or azureus in a month or two, and have a few questions that i have not found answers to in a lot of different sources. any help is appreciated:
1) what do you guys recommend for photoperiod?
2) what time of the day do you feed?
3) how many flies at a time do you attempt to feed?
4) in regards to sexing, is it possible to buy adult sexed pairs of frogs to minimize the chances of getting same sex froglets?

thankyou so much,
shawn

1) about 12 hours is fine. My lights come on at about 9:30am and go off around 10pm. The frogs know when its time because they always head to their 'beds' about half and hour before the lights go out.

2) It really doesnt matter what time of day you feed. They will always come to the food when you drop it in.

3) I tend to over feed mine. But i only feed once after 2 days.

4) yes you can buyed adult sexed froglets but they will cost about 4x more then froglets.

BTW, i want to add, if you want them on a 'scheduale' you can feed the same time every day they would probibly setting and waiting for some FFs then.

As for adult frogs. You can get them but they are expensive and hard to find. D. Azerus (sp?) is the easiest to get. It could be tricky finding other breeds of adults.

thanks a lot... yeah, i initially thought about the sexed pairs for the frogs as i primarily deal with geckos and pythons, which are usually quite a bit easier to find pairs of. however, after looking it over, it simply isn't very cost effective. thanks a lot for the help (i don't normally ask for help, but seeing as this is a new area, i appreciate it a lot. also, if any beginners are reading this, i can assure you that it is much easier and more considerate to just go to any one of the 5 or 6 care sheets found online and do some research instead of asking broad questions here. also, just search the entire forum too. that's my rant).
