Can a BD get spoiled by being hand fed too much??

Chibird Apr 07, 2004 12:50 PM

We have been feeding our adult girl mostly by hand, because it is so cool, and we let her eat till she stops.( exept for crickets which I have cut her down to 6-8 a few times a week.) She eats great if we hand it to her, but seems a little pickey if we just leave food in a bowl. Can a BD get spoiled and just want to get waited on? Also, I try to get her into the sun (W/ shade avail of course)at least a few times a week, for a few hours. She has been preferring mostly flowers, greenbeans, broccoli, amd a little sweet potato. I give dipped crickets about once a week. Does that sound OK??

yes they can get spoiled and very lazy. so if the food comes to them they won't go looking for it. You may want to put her next to a bowl and then start to feed her but after the first couple pieces, drop the rest in the bowl in front of her. You need a staple like Greens (collards, dandilion, mustard...) foods like brocccoli that are higher in oxilates should be fed occationally. go to www.beautifuldragons.com for a very complete list of nutritiuonal value of different foods.

Thanks Bennett, I know she ate just fine out of a bowl at her old home, because the lost intrest and just fed her as a chore, so i figure they didn't sit around and coddle her like we do here.

My beardie is very spoiled and lazy, so he will hardly ever eat on his own. Personally, I don't mind. The only problem is if I go on vacation, I hope I can find someone who wouldn't mind handfeeding him for me. lol.

Yep-my beardie refuses to eat unless I talk to her like a little baby, and I have to lick my lips and go mmmm mmmm goood, then put the cricket--with its hoppers removed (she HATES cricket hopper legs), next to her then she will eat. Ironically she will not eat with me holding it--she is ultra careful not to bite me. Very intelligent!

If I do not do this ritual she will refuse to eat and turn dark.

Does that answer your question about getting spoiled?
