Wood glue

jsc230 Apr 07, 2004 01:27 PM

I was gonna make my gecko a hide since I am a really poor college student. So I was gonna make it out of tools I have available to me. That being popsicle sticks and wood glue. Once the wood glue is dry it won't emit any fumes or what not? Will it be safe to use as long as i let it cure properly and away from the gecko?

I made a popsicle stick hide once, using regular elmer's glue. The leo never really used it though, and it wasn't all that dark, but you could give it a try.

Hi

I don't now about the wood glue, but I would think that it wouldn't be the best, exspecially if it got wet somehow in the tank. You should use silicone, like they use to keep fish tanks together. You could find some at a petstore or I would think HomeDepot.

Rememeber to let it air dry for awhile.

Use plastic containers like margerine, coolwhip, etc. if you don't like the way it looks i'm sure you can coat it in white glue and roll it in sand. Containers are a lot less work too, just punch a hole through

good luck

Yeah, orthat. All my tanks have cool whip or margerine containers. They are free once you use the contents, and are easy to clean. Doesn't give the leos anything hard to rub against when they are shedding, so I put in one of those halved coconuts to help. I completely forgot about containers. lol

Hi

You could always go and get a free rock outside with a little bit of a rough texture for them to rub against when sedding, you would just need to boil it real good for about fifteen minuetes to be safe.

PLEASE GET A REGULAR HIDE!!!
a plactic flower put works well, just cut a hole in it, my first leo was a rescue ( i took her from a small poorly run pet shop, told him i was taking her or id tell everyone what a $*it hole his place really was) she was in with a popsickle stick house, got her leg caught, i managed to get her some use of it back but she lost all of her toes and had a herd time getting around to fast.
PLEASE BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU PUT IN WITH YOUR LEO!!!
(not trying to yell, but i loved that girl for many years, and was sad everytime i saw what someones carelessness had done to her)

She has 2 regular hides and a humid hide, this was more of an entertainment thing for me. See poops in her cool hideand i was gonna switch it out and try to potty train her.

if the popsicle sticks are dangerous i would just go with a coconut hide. u can buy a whole coconut at the grocery store for $2 and just break it at a certain point for however big/small u want it to be. thats what i did. but the great thing about that was i have a parrot who will eat the insides so it won't be going to waste hope u figure out the perfect hide for you'r leo!
