Pet stores!!!

israel2004 Apr 07, 2004 01:28 PM

Was in a pet store in a local mall last night and heard the guys trying to rip this 12-13year old kid and his grandparents off. Buy trying to sell the a crested for $175. No morph nothing special about, just your regular run of the mill crested. I had a real hard time not laughing, right in the guy's face. Unbelivable what some people will try.

his grandparentss? that is horrible, ripping off old people. you should have told the grandparents and watch the old people hit the salesman.

Pet stores mark most of their animals up 200 or 250%. So if the store got that animal for 60$, that's at the top end of the expected markup. I'd almost rather see a beginner get a crestie for 175$ than an iguana for 20$...

That's just crazy to pay $175 for a regular crested, when the good pet stores in the area will get them in for $30 - 40 for you.

How did they look? Most of the reptiles I see in pet stores look awfully unhealthy. I want to buy them all and nurse them back to health. And then they give you absolutely awful advice on how to maintain the animals. Pet store clerks know nothing about herps, and the care sheets they have are usually vague and sometimes flat wrong.

So unhealthy animals are sold for outrageous prices (not to mention caging and accessories) to people who do not know how to care for thier new animals, which just encourages the pet stores to sell more bad herps!

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

I would've taken gramps outta earshots way & told him that the guy was tryin to rip him off, that you kept that type of gecko & knew what they're worth......don't let him rip you off.
