Expanded PVC (aka PVCX or EPVC) is easily found at plastic and sign shops, with the former typically being cheaper than the latter. Both tend to be cheaper than US Plastics once you factor in shipping.

Call around and see what prices are like in your area.

It is not easy to work with. The 1/2" is not bad as screws or rivets can be used in conjunction with a solvent. The 1/4" is harder to work with but is much lighter and tends to be a lot cheaper due to availability.

In my mind it's worth learning how to work with the 1/4" material for cages. For racks I think the extra cost and weight of the 1/2" material is a worthwhile tradeoff.

Due to the closed cell nature of the expanded/foamed interior PVCX conducts heat nicely. It's also what leads to the lighter weight. Factor in the anti-flame properties of PVC and this product is excellent for cage floors where undertank heating will be used.

I do not recommend PVCX for lizard species that scratch a lot.

One last comment. There appears to be variation in density of the different 1/2" PVCX products from different companies. 1/2" weights vary from 38 to 70 lbs. 70 lbs is actually heavier than most standard core 1/2" plywoods so if you want to use the 1/2" material AND save weight you need to check the weight of the product your are considering closely.
