Sarawak growth rate compared to borneo or sumatans

fishkiller Apr 07, 2004 02:39 PM

I've noticed my little sarawak from Garby doesn't grow as fast as a same aged marbled borneo.I think its because they don't grow as large as the borneo, I'm guessing, because it is totally noticible who is growing faster.Anyone else notice this, or is my little girl just a runt. She eats a big small rat usually every Friday.

Hey Fish,
I think you are on to something, as I've also noticed the same thing with my little girl from Bob Garby. She eats regularly, but has a slow growth rate compared to other short-tails in the group of similar age. I just think that it might be something attributable to the particular species.

Thats cool, I thought maybe I had the runt or something, which wouldn't be a bad thing either.I'm off the next two days, picture time, my weather here is just unreal, beautiful. Later, Ethan

They do not grow as fast, but they don't slow down like my regular borneos do. I have a female sarawak from 1998 that is around 22lbs and she still growing. The reason I think they do not grow is that they burn more calories due to their more active nature. Mine are like burmese pythons at times. I have growth rate data on two from 1998 until now and the male I got from Bob last October. When/if my eggs hatch from my standard borneos, I will take weights compared to food intake to get an average efficiency ratio. I think it is around 30-40% goes into body mass.

Stay tuned.
