Moving to Charlotte, NC, legality ??

diate Apr 07, 2004 03:09 PM

Can't find anywhere whether it is legal to own a captive bred cornsnake in Charlotte,NC. Anybody from there? Anybody have any idea? Called a couple petstores down there but nobody could tell me. Searched the web...nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brett

As far as I know you can keep any snake. I read somewhere that if you are going to keep more than five native species you have to have a permit, and you cant keep anything on the special concern list (eastern diamondback, pygmy and a couple others). I live in Greensboro which is about 80 miles north of Charlotte. Unless Charlotte has some city ordinance or something you should be fine.

You should check with the states chamber of commerce, and or the sates wild life society. Or even the National Wild Life Society.
You can also check the web, there are several states if not all that have some kind of site that pertains to exotics.
Good Luck...
