Not doing so hot

MrGimmick Apr 07, 2004 04:23 PM

I recently got a ball off a friend of mine who'd had her for a long time, and wasn't really the best owner in the world - i asked him if anything was wrong and he said 'well she sits in her water dish a lot...'

so i checked her over, and unfortunately it looks like she has a pretty bad case of scale rot all along her belly - not open sores, but lots and lots of red discoloration along her bottom (normally white) scales ... the thing is, I live nowhere near a vet that knows anything about herps (I made it a point to call around and ask some key questions), in fact the nearest one is probably half a day's drive from here or more ... is there anywhere online that i can order meds from, or some other way to treat scale rot? i feel awful because she's the sweetest little girl i've ever seen, and she's amazingly friendly and curious - let me know, I appreciate it a lot

Keep her on dry newspaper, and give her a small waterbowl that she can not soak in. Apply Betadine solution to the infected area 2x's daily, and it should heal perfectly after the next shed. Also keep temps on the warm side of the OTR (optimum temp. range), and you should be good to go.

Are you sure her ventrals are not red because she is getting ready to shed?

Hope this helps,
Chad

I'm 95% sure the redness is not due to shedding - but thank you very much - ill see how it turns out
