Reed Frogs

tuwhada Apr 07, 2004 05:37 PM

Can anybody give me any information on the care of reed frogs. For example recommended tank size and how many can go in it and basic setup and diet, do they get crix or fruit flies. Also I know there are a few different species of reed frogs, and I know mixing is bad but can you put different reed frogs together.
Thanks
Christina

Depending on where you get the reeds from, mixing different kinds of reeds should not be an issue. Most places get in mixed lots of reeds anyways and sell them as "Assorted Reeds." Depending on how many you want to keep a 10-20 gallon should be ok. I prefer a taller tank such as a 20 high. I use Eco-Earth bedding and live plants in pots. I also keep a shallow water dish in their tank. I spray the 2-3 times a day and keep them at room temp, but if your house is cool, a small heat lamp might be necessary.I feed mine fruit flies and tiny crickets dusted with vitamins and calcium every other feeding. A quick web search should find some more specific caresheets. They are an easy frog to keep and come ina beautiful range of colors. I like buying the mixed lots of reeds since I always get the most amazing colrs. I have one that is silvery blue, striped ones, pattterned ones, and ones that are metallic gold.
