This is one of two nigra found under an 8' section of tin. A closer look showed them to be a pair. This is the third time this year that I have come across this scenario. For the most part, I don't usually see black kings sharing space. Both kings were a little rough looking, and I suspect neither had shed yet this year. They should look a lot shinier if I come across them again later in the season.
This prairie king was seen in typical old field habitat under a car hood. KY is in the extreme eastern edge of the prairie kings range, and ours tend towards darker lower contrast animals. This is what I would refer to as the forest population of prairies.

Nice pix, Phil. Brings me back to the days when I collected the same from around the other side of the Ohio River near Derby and Tell City, Indiana. Nigra and triangulum/syspila intergrades were always around dilapidated houses/barns, especially where old tin and roofing shingles were laying about. Neat places to herp.
Best...
