Cut it open...

lostkauze Apr 07, 2004 06:32 PM

For those of you who have followed my plight, the egg has molded over so I decided to cut it open. I pulled out a gorgeous jungle, who evidentally was dead and not fully formed. Her (assuming its a female, incubated at 80*) skin was loose, didn't seem to have much of a neck, and her head was stumpy. She was my 2nd clutch ever, so I was expecting that much.

Going out on a last whim, I put the girl back into the incubator, wrapped in a tissue, becuse I have read that many of you do that to a premature gecko. Thanks to everyone and hopefully I'll have more in the future.

As for putting in back in the inubator, I'm not expecting anything, but is being wrapped in a tissue fine, or should I do something more 'scientific' like another method.

Thanks all.

Michael

If the egg was molded over, then it most likely is dead. Even if it wasn't, it would more than likely die sooner than later.

Hope this helps. I cut one of my eggs open and then stuck her in the incubator because I was stupid and shouldn't had cut it open with so much force, and now she's jumping all over the place -- running around and such.

Good luck with your girl. You just put her back in the incubator in a container, nothing else? Ya I wasn't/aren't going to expect much.

I put her back in a deli cup, with most paper towels, that I held under hot water for a few seconds. She's up and looking healthy.

We have 2 39-day old eggs that have been fertile, one dented in 4 days ago. We noticed a slit in the egg this afternoon, and have witnessed no movement.

Both eggs are also darker than any we've seen on any website. We are incubating in a homemade incubator with an outer tank, water, etc.

Is it possible that the vermiculite we are using made the eggs darker? And does anyone know what's happening to the egg with the slit?

Appreciate any help, this is our first time.
