last weekend i got a pair of youg D.Auratus at IAD (a great show!) when i was back at the hotel room that night gave the frogs some fruit flies wich they eat gladly, but upon getting them home, they will not eat, and just hide in there coco hut all day. i moved them from my viv into a simple 10 gallon with sphagnum moss and a peice of flat cork, now they just sit under the cork half buried in moss, still ignoring food, whats wrong???? my other dart frogs(D. tinctorius) eat fine the minuet they were home
any help would be appreciated!

I'm new to Dart Frogs, but what I think, and what I've seen listed here a bit, is that they probably just need some time to settle. The new home is probably just stressing them out and thats why they're always hiding.

My newbie advice would be to just make sure they have access to food constantly until they start eating, and if they still dont eat after a little while you might want to get them checked out.

Give them some time to get adjusted to the new enviornment. Keep the humidity high, provide lots of hiding spaces and leave them alone. They probably are eating, just not in front of you. Good luck, enjoy the frogs.

My advice is the same as the other two posts above. But remember D. Auratus is a much more shyier (sp?) frog then D Tinc. So itmay take a while for them to start moving about. Just give em time to settle in.

i have had auratus in my system for 6 months and they still will instantly hide when they get a glimpse of any movement outside the tank. They are very shy but are now starting to venture up the front glass like my leucs have been doing since day one. the tank they are in is heavily planted and quite large and they are eating well, thriving and growing. but only when i sit infront of the tank motionless for long periods of time will i actually see them out and about. but i must say it does make it all the more special when i do see them.
