Beginner with egg - question

Snakemother Apr 07, 2004 10:10 PM

One of my daughter's leos laid her first egg. It wasn't the gecko we expected, and she laid it in the dry area of the tank, on top. We last checked them at 3:30 in the afternoon, and I found the egg at 10:30 tonight. It looked hard and very white, and I know in my dragon's eggs I would think this one had dried out. I put it in the incubator with plenty of humidity and 84F anyway. What's the chances it's okay?
Also, the gecko I've been waiting on to lay for the last 3 weeks is still a no-show. I'm wondering if I should put the male back in with her (they had a week together). What do you think?
One last question from my daughter - she's afraid her gentle handling of the new-mama gecko may have caused the egg to be bad. Can they be handled gently while carrying eggs to no ill effect?

The egg has started to colapse somewhat. I wet a paper towel, wrung it out, then laid it over the top of the egg container - not touching the egg, but sort of as a top to the container. Is this good?
