Nice cage. Is that melamine or wood? Either way, it looks like a good job. Your girlfriend should be very pleased.

It is melamine. I had some left over from a rack i just dismantled. I still need a jigsaw though. Since it is going to be desert I'll need to fabricate a screen on the top.I would hate to build something that traps in humidity. She wanted a hinge top for feeding and a glass front. She hates when crickets jump out the front, heh. Thank you for the good comments. I suggest using wood if at all possible, melamine is heavy and not very useful when you design for desert species.
