To be fertile...or not to be fertile...

tokay_dude1 Apr 08, 2004 05:02 AM

Lol...i decided to candle Phoebe's(the leo that died laying her eggs) eggs tonight..what i can see is a small circle with a red "smear" inside if it, the eggs are really white and chalky but still somewhat soft, also, from my snow females last clutch one egg looked infertile but i kept it, checked on it about an hour ago and is has plumped up and now has a whole mass of red veins, and the fertile egg i posted about yesterday is still sweating and is soft, hopefully the thermometer i have inside isnt broken and i havnt been reading the temps wrong because i still think it may be too soon for a hatchling to pop out, but ya never know

I hope all of your eggs are fertile, i'm looking forward to seeing the hatchlings May i ask, how exactly did you candle the eggs? And how soon after laying do see red veins?

Thanks,
Red

i candle with a small flashlight i baught from a 99cent store LOL you can use those pen flashlights or a maglite, usually a week after laying if they're fertile you'll be able to either see a reddish orange circle on top or a whole mass of veins

in one of your posts above you asked if you should leave the top of the containers for the new eggs...i would put it on just to keep the himidity inside the container right, you have the probes in there just make a small whole in the tops to the cont. and slip it through, the eggs may get to hot and/or dry out if there is no top on, thats from experience(sp?) lol buts its just an opinion.

Thankyou i'll go put the tops on right now I've got a few maglights hehehe, one really huge one and then a few smaller ones, so now i'm all excited about candling them.

I'll let everyone know what i find in a week
