Carpets can be nippy as hatchlings before they put size on, but tend to mellow out as they grow up. Especially if you start handling a hatchling fairly often, say a couple times a week, you should end up with a nice laid back carpet. All my adult carpets have from time to time been draped around my neck when I'm on the computer. Both carpets and boas can make great pets, I'm just a bit more partial to the carpet. Buy what you want based on looks, size, etc. One isn't necessarily going to make a better pet than another. And a pic to try to sway you to the carpet side

They are really nice looking where can I get a young one that would have the yellow black coloring?
Thanks

Hatchlings should be available from most breeders over the next couple months.
some of the nicest jungles carpet pythons(black and yellow) can be found online from a couple of really good breeders. I would recommend one of the following for a beatiful animal:
Reptilicus Reptiles (Will Leary has some of the nicest jngles out there) online at http://www.reptilicusreptiles.net/
Selective Origins (Adam Willich and Matt Turner have some incredible animals too) online at http://www.selectiveorigins.com/
You could also find some nice individuals at a nearby reptile show. The breeders above, however, have excellent animals with very well defined patterns. It just depends on what you want in an animal.
Also, be sure to check up on care sheets before u actually purchase an animal. there's a very good care sheet by Anthony Caponetto online at http://www.acreptiles.com/carpet_python_care.htm
Carpets are beautiful and rewarding animals to own.
Goodluck on your decision

Bevak,
As bluntman posted, both Reptilicus and Selective Origins are two of the top breeders for jungle carpets. Their collections are top notch, and probably your best bet for phenomenal animals. There are a couple breeders working on a smaller scale. Bob Futo and Don Hamper have quality selections. The adults in the picture I posted may produce a clutch this year, but I haven't had much luck with the girl. I've only gotten two hatchlings from them.

Very cool photo! They are so beautiful!
I have both. I have had baby boas, but not baby carpets. One thing I like about the carpet, is it is smart. They learn. It so crazy... They are beautiful, mine is usually a nice black and yellow coloration. East bay vivarium has some great carpets.
Boas are lap snakes, carpets want to move. Big, heavy snakes that do what they want to do. Both snakes need about the same caging. Truely adults snakes demand respect. They have big teeth, but you usually have to piss them off pretty hard to just get a hiss. They are both great snakes. Good luck with your choice.

They are smart. I'm not sure if many people have seen this, but when I take my JCP out of his vision tank, I leave the glass open on it and he will hang out for about 5-10 mins then he goes right back into his cage all by himself. I watched him do this a few times and I get a kick out of it everytime.
I bought a jungle carpet at a local store and I'm very satisfied with her. She is a nice pet snake. She is a yearling so over the nippy stage. I took her to work and everyone liked her. She was good to let everyone touch and hold her without getting nippy in any way. I can't wait to see how big/long she will get. She is at least 4 foot right now. :0)
I'm also thinking about getting a boa in the future. I've heard they are real docile.
