Hi, I am really sorry to hear about your loss.I hope you dont mind me asking but what exactly happened.I am only asking as I have just rescued a female water dragon who is 9, and I am also worried about her getting egg bound. Can you tell me the symptoms and what exactly happened to her.I rescued my water dragon 2 and half weeks ago and she hasnt eaten since i have had her.She has laid two eggs one a couple of days after we got her and the other one she laid last monday, and that has been it she hasnt laid anymore.Did you water dragon lay any eggs at all.I am sorry if these questions are not at an appropriate time, but I want to make sure that my water dragon doesnt get egg bound like yours and dies.Once again sorry to hear your loss.kind regards nat.
Last year I lost both my females to the same thing. Mine never laid any eggs before they died. They acted lethargic and had trouble holding onto their branches. My one girl had laid several clutches before without any trouble, and she normally didn't eat for a month or so before laying them. She only took a day to lay them tho. Both of my girls went downhill very rapidly, one day they would be digging and looking like they were going to lay, and the next day very lethargic and died within hours.

Thanks for your message. I do hope i could help you cuz if i could help another dragon live longer , then it me feel a little better right now.
1) Yes she did lay eggs ( 5) 2 ,1 ,2 at different times.
2) make sure you have egg laying medium . about 10 inch deep in a plastic container . peat moss and sand mixture keep it moist so you can pack it.
3) make sure she gets calcium. she wont eat because of the pressure from the eggs , but at least give her liquid calcium from a dropper.
This is her second clutch. last year she laid eggs .
but this year she didnt finish laying them and got really weak. the vet said that if they were to operate , she probably live ver y weak and suffer a great deal. I kept a close eye on her and hand fed her for a while now.
her pelvic bone was too narrow and the eggs were putting alot of pressure on her . Im glad her suffering is over.
remember , females lay eggs with or without a male , so make sure that if she gains weight in the mid section, then get the laying medium ready . I m sorry i cant be of much help, i hope your rescue will be ok . good luck,
peace
nat please see msg above, i replied to myself by accidentl
thank you for your support.

Hi, thanx for your advice.I have already put a laying box in her vivarium. It has moist peat in it, but as of yet she hasnt used it.I have taken advice from the vet and I am currently giving her critical care formula mixed with nutrobal and water by syringe.I am doing this as the vet thinks she is calcium deficent.Because she is a rescue I do not know her history or if the last owner gave her calicum and vit supplements. This means that whatever calicum she had she used to produce eggs, she now doesnt have any calcium.I am doing everything I can and I am giving her plenty of tlc.If she doesnt lay soon I am going to take her back to the vets. Can I ask another question, you say that your water dragon did lay 5 eggs can you tell me what was the time gap between each egg and once she laid her last egg how long did she live for.Thanx again for answering my previous questions, and I think that I would feel better if I had gone through your experience then gave someone in the same situation some advice.I hope I can save my water dragon.kind regards nat.
nat,
Youre doing the right thing by giving her supplements .
My girl laid eggs in intrevals of every 2 days inbetween to a week and a half in between. Like dsgngrl said, when they get egg bound they go pretty fast, so keep an eye on her. Can you feel more eggs in her? ( they feel like little jelly beans.) if so , give her some warm soaks . Dont massage her belly too much because you dont want to rupture them inside.
in my case , i did everything , but sometimes theres not much you can do after all that. good luck youre doin the right thing,

i always get really nervous when my gals are gravid... especially with infertiles.. because i don't always catch it until there just about laid... but i have been lucky that they either reabsorb or lay a ton of eggs.
