buzzoff Apr 08, 2004 05:00 PM

I recently bought a male crested with out his tail and I was wondering how he would do with another male crested that I just found with out his tail..Would they fight or what?..The cage is a 20 gallon tank, tall..Thanks a lot..

... This is a common misconception with crested geckos and other small geckos like this. When putting males together, it does not mean that they just bite the tail off to show their dominance, they fight usually to the death. Sure they will not be able to bite eachother's tails off, but they will bite and gnaw on one another until the other is dead. I would not recommend doing that with the crested geckos, but if you do, I would not be suprised if you woke up one morning to find one dead on the bottom of the cage.

I'm not sure where you heard this "fight to the death" stuff, but I have three subadult virgin males, all with well developed bulges, and all are sharing the same cage. None of them are missing tails and all of them are doing just fine.

Unless there will be a female in the cage, I wouldn't be so worried.

I believe mine is a virgin male...He is a year old or so and doing great. I want to do my own rescue type thing with the tail-less cresteds. I can house about 2 more cresteds with the set up I have. Thanks so much for the input...If I do attempt this I will make sure they are the same size and such..Even though they arent raised together, they'll get along?..Thanks again!
