BCI food size

the-mikester Apr 08, 2004 05:02 PM

does anyone here keep track of the weight of the food items they give their boas? would it be safe to feed a 200g BCI a 60g rat (or two 30g mice)? so far its been getting 30g mice.

i would have loved to search the forums for a similar question...but the search on this sight sucks. it was good before they updated them sometime last year. grr...lol.

The other day I fed one of my holdback het albino females from 2003 a mouse because I figured she was large enough to eat one. Well I guess not she threw up the mouse and within 24 hours died. Ive had this happen before on another occasion with a small boa I fed a rat pup to instead of her normal 3 pink rats. So its ALWAYS best to err on the side of smaller items instead of trying to give them huge meals. Smaller meals more frequently work best for growing boas and make it easier to digest. I was very saddened by this girls passing she was the bomb of a het albino and was always tame from the beginning I had looked forward to seeing her as an adult............RIP little one:

A lot of folks go by the general rule that prey should not be any bigger than one to one and a half times the biggest part of the snakes body.
