...mites.....

lizliz710 Apr 08, 2004 05:17 PM

Ok i found out that my new Baby Red-tail Boa (April) had mites on monday we've been treating her since. How often should we spray the mite stuff on her and in the cage and when could be put the substate bakc intot he cage its been cleaned and dried. How long will it take before the mites are all gone and we have to keep doing this? Someone we knew said we should spray her every other day.

Liz,
. Without knowing what "mite stuff" you are using your questions are impossible to answer. If you are using anything other than Black Knight or Provent-a-mite or something with the same active ingredient at a same concentration as these two you are using the wrong product. All other products are either less safe or very very much less effective. Many of them will never get rid of all the mites. Most products should not be sprayed directly on the snake. Many products which will effectively kill mites will also kill your pets. If you use Black Knight or Provent-a-mite as directed you will only need to spray the cage a couple of times and all the mites will be killed and their eggs will not hatch. I would not reuse the substrate that was in the cage. It may still have mites or mite eggs in it and putting it back into the cage will reinfest the snake and cage.
