My sulcata is a boy!

StephanieA Apr 08, 2004 05:50 PM

Mr Beau's gender has finally been revealed as he has been showing off his newly found "organs" for the past several days. He's only 2 and not too big, so this came as a big surprise. My friend and I had been having a constant fight over his sex, I thought it was a girl because it had some birth defect shell deformities. I am very excited, now I just have to wait even longer to find out the gender of my baby desert tortoises also.

yay! mr beau will stay mr beau and not miss beau.

I also have a 2 year old Sulcata. I had no idea it was possible to tell the sex at that age. I don't mean to sound stupid, but could you tell me exactly how you were able to tell? I'd like to know what to look for. I've just been examining the shape of the plastron near the tail. So far, mine is still shaped like a male, but it could change since he's not fully mature yet. Thanks!
