Proper Handling

dchiboi Apr 08, 2004 07:32 PM

I have searched through the posts and have not really found any information on handling of WD's. I know that usually it is best not to "play" with them, but as far as cleaning and what not, can anyone give any tips? I have read that some say that if they jump out of their enclosure at you to let them land on you and don't grab them. I understand they can get stressed very easily. Any behaviorial/handling tips would be great.

Don't grab them from above, their main predators are birds, so if you swoop in at them they get scared. I usually moved my hand in from across the cage at their level, and slowly put my hand under them from the front. They usually climbed right on my arm. If you grasp them around the middle they will flip out. They are pretty tame with frequent handling, and are not as easily stressed as basilisks, but any handling is really for your benefit, they are happier if left alone.
