Another question for FR

Hello! I was reading an interview you did for The Vivarium today (Vol 9) concerning your experiences with monitors, you seem to be the best person to ask this (I posted something on this forum weeks back, but no one offerred any advice). How long before you know if monitor eggs are viable? My Timor pair produced eggs Feb 3rd, and all looks well (eggs are full and white, incubating at 30 celcius, moistened verm., moderate humidity, etc), but I'm still a little worried because i've read from others that first clutches rarely are viable. Any advice? Thanks much! Attached is a pic of Sasha the mom.

And what a sweet looking female. She looks like some ovum is in her at the time of the pic.

Remember, eggs will do one of two things, they will either hatch or spoil. It does not matter if they are fertile or not, that is, fertile eggs can and will die as well as infertile eggs spoiling.

While your new to eggs, incubate them until one or the other happens.

Also, I do not think first time clutches are not suppose to hatch, in fact, much the opposite. I think its far simplier to recieve hatchable eggs from first time young females.

In my opinion, if they look good, then treat them as if they are good. Congrats again and good luck. FR

Thanks much! This is my first breeding project ever, so you can imagine my excitement when she was digging like crazy! The photo was taken the day before she laid them. The eggs seem to have increased in size a little over the past week or so, so I'm hopeful. Thanks again for your quick response. Here's another photo of her just after she laid and buried her eggs.
