A Run Down Of Everything Needed

dchiboi Apr 08, 2004 08:14 PM

Okay, I know I have posted a few things here and they are all unrelated. However, I always like to learn as much as I can before I get a new herp. I have read several threads and have begun to piece together some of what I need to do, but there is always room for more info. Can anyone give me a run down of everything I will need to ensure my WD is a happy and healthy boy/girl. I.E. Lighting, substrate, vines, food, etc.... or prehaps you can point me in the right direction to a website or something. My anticipated cage size will be 3'x3'x4'x6'6" see the picture attached.

The cage is an interesting idea, I don't know how you will get a large water area in there tho, since there isn't much floor space. Basically, adult dragons need a large water area, trees for climbing, UVB lighting and basking lights (I use mercury vapor bulbs) and basking areas (I used fake cliffs along with branches). Mine loved eating earthworms and mice, but ate a ton of other things too. Vines are useless except for decoration, dragons are too heavy to climb on them.

That may be a little small though.... You're dimensions add up to 29.07 cubic feet or 217 (approx) gallons. Most peoples enclosures are about 300-400 US gallons. Now I understand why you want it shaped the way you do but I dont know if it sthe most effective way to do it.

1 cubic foot= .133680556 US gallons

.5(2H)(6.5)(2)/.133680556

H^2=3^2-2^ H=2.236

.5(2*2.236)(6.5)(2)=29.06 ft^3 29.06/.133680556= 217.5 US gallons
