Small Female

DragonsTale Apr 08, 2004 11:13 PM

I have a beautiful hypo-snow 2 year old female that is about 15in long, but I have no idea how much she weighs. I was just wondering the risks of breeding such a small female. We were planning on it and bought her a red/yellow boyfriend, but then when I started to look into it I noticed that most female breeders were much larger than her. I have heard of egg-binding, is that caused by the size of the females? What else could go wrong? I don't want to put her at risk.

From what I understand due to inbreeding and other factors the size of beardies seems to be declining and that is generally thought of as a bad thing. Your female being that small may very well be the product of such practices and I would bet most breeders who have the interest of bringing more healthy, bigger beardies into the market would rather you not breed her.

also, crestedgecko.com.....all thee stock is really small.

i'm not sure of where exactly they get theres, or what there breeding practices are, but they say they don't inbreed...

i got a girl from their stock that ended up 15.75 inches long and i wasn't going to breed her cuz she was sooo small. then one day they accidently got put together...and they mated before i got home(i wasn't here fior it)

so i checked weight and she weighed 347grams so, i waited....thats all i could do. she layed 2 fertile clutches of 18, and 15 this season and she may be gravid again....

i will not breed her again....cuz i don't want anything to happen...but i'm just saying that it can be done....it just is a very high risk and preferably avoided.

hope this helps
