I think it was you who asked for some pictures of my leo rack. You can see my first hatchling of the year up on the top left. Here are the rack pics:

No prob. bro! Yep the rope light really makes a nice effect when the room lights are off. It’s hard to pickup with the camera because of the flash. Oh, and sorry I misspelled your name! If it makes you feel any better I’ve been called CableDave before, hehe.

Hi Dave, Love the racks I have a question.....the rope lights are a great idea....i have some and was going to put them up on my 8' unit but decided to use them on a smaller unit i'm moving most of my 20 gal tanks to. Are you using it just for lighting or does it provide heat as well? I can't see any heat tape but i'm also on the older computer with a VERY old monitor so i can't see much if the details anyways hehe.

Thanks
Red

Thanks Red! There is heat tape on all the shelves, see the pic below for a closer shot it (on the left). The top shelf (the one shown below) has the tape in the center, I typically use that level for hatchlings. For the rest of the shelves, the heat tape is closer to the back of the rack.

The light rope does give off a good amount of heat, but I use it strictly for viewing/lighting. It creates a nice effect when the lights are off, you can see right through the clear portions of the tubs. I enjoy watching my leo’s little silhouettes as they go about their lives.

The rope is attached to a timer that has buttons for 30, 15, 10, and 5 minutes. I usually hit the 30 and let it go off on its own without it affecting the temps much more than a degree or two. I’ve found that if I leave it on for more than an hour, the combined heat of the tape and rope pushes the temps to 95 , not a good idea.

The rope alone might make an adequate heat source if it was placed on a dimmer, but I trust the heat tape more than the rope. You can see my racks ‘control center’ on the top left just above my hatchling. It has 4 dimmers for the tape, and the light rope timer is in the center. Hope this helps!
