Looks like an Indigo Snake to me (Drymarchon chorais sp). I do not know what subspecies, but it has that Indigo face. At any rate...non venomous. Cool snake!

It does look much like Drymarchon, except that they do not occur in Arizona. It could be a black kingsnake, Lampropeltis getulus nigritus. They only enter Arizona from Mecico at the southernmost point & have a very small range. If that's not where you live, then rule that one out. If it is an indigo, it's an escaped or released pet.

Greg is right. That is a black Kingsnake. The scalation on the head and the traces of white(?) dotting on the sides suggest intergradiation with the Texas King L.g.splendida.

Oh well. Never seen a black king out there. I'll leave the western species to the pros.
