Hi Brandon,
I think that your confusion is coming from the acclimation process and the taming process which are very different time frames and highly debated.
You just got him last night correct? That means that for the next four to six weeks you should let him acclimate to his cage and temperature. He maybe calm and healthy believe they can come that way, but you should only handle him for short amounts of time five to ten minutes and only when you must handle him for cleaning purposes or water changes if you catch him soaking. At least for the acclimation.
Once acclimated the "taming" can start, once again only ten to fifteen minutes every other day or every two days for like the first week or two. Then you can up it to ten minutes every day as long as he is comfortable and not upset. You have to understand one thing about Bosc monitors, they do "tame" but when one is healthy, i.e.. bright eyes, good appetite, and healthy weight; it doesn't mean that it isn't in shock or slightly stressed from being sold from the importer to the pet store to you all in a matter of weeks.
Give him time then work with him. This is just like raising a baby so to speak, little bits at a time and you adjust to its needs as he grows.
Trust me you may have a great monitor but everyone has a moment.
Let him relax for a bit then work on making him your lap dog.
Hope this helps settle the confusion,
JC
