HELP my timors escaped

forsakened Apr 09, 2004 11:36 AM

I just moved my timor pair into their new enclosure yesterday, and this morning when i looked to check on them, they were gone. The enclosure was that 260 gallon reptarium(mesh), so the only way i can think of that the got out is pushed the zippers apart.

So ive been looking for about an hour and no sign. Checked under the bed, closets, couches, etc. Any ideas?

If you know of any tricks or anything let me know, i really would like to find these guys.

You gotta put a twisty tie on those zippers, first!
My Timor got out a few times when we first got him. They can fit under VERY small spaces. They also can squeeze straight under doors. My adult male favored hiding under the dryer, although you wouldn't think he could get under there. Leave out bowls of water, you may catch them drinking and even if you don't at least they won't get dehydrated, which is really your main worry. Other than that keep your ears and eyes open and hopefully they'll turn up. I was lucky in that my dog is good at finding escaped reptiles.

Well its 5 o clock now and i still cant even find a trace. I just checked under the washer/dryer and fridge, nothing. I have a dog(weimeriener) and he is very keen, always chases anoles outside, so im sure if they have been out roaming my halls i would have at least heard some scratching from the dog. I put a bowl of water out in my room to see if that will lure them out.

Is there anything else i can do?

Oh and by the way, even when my dog catches an anole, he doesnt eat it, so he wont eat my timors.

If you stay up very quietly late at night (internet chat rooms are good for this purpose) you may be able to hear them move around. That's how we caught ours the first time. If you don't find them for a few days to a week you might want to put dead mice out for them.
(I don't know if my dog would eat anoles, but a Timor monitor would give her a fair fight)

not sure how your house is set up, if you have wood floors or rooms with linoleum, sprinkle flour in the door ways, at least this will give you a direction of travel

!!!
Dang i never thought about that. Really an awesome idea though, because my whole house is tile/wood floor/except 3 rooms, including mine.

Im gonna put it front of all doorways tomorrow.

Ill post results.

Oh and also in my room i set up a heat lamp, water bowl, and bowl of superworms.
