What about Reptariums?

Porkins Apr 09, 2004 02:39 PM

You know, the black mesh cages. I have the shredded coconut for substrate and 2 heatlamps for, well, heat. My room stays pretty warm anyways. They seem to like the airflow, and with my glass cages, when they defecated, it would stink up the whole area where their cages are, but with the big reptarium, you have to put your head in there to smell it, which does not make much sense, but is true. The substrate might also help out alot with the smell though, and no, I do not feed them on it. Another reasons I like the reptarium, even though this has never happened, is that if the snake were to strike at you, then it would not hurt it self on a hard surface like glass, plastic, or wood.

I know I am going to receive plenty of heat for this, but my Retic, my 2 RTBs, and my Green Anaconda all live in a reptarium together. They love eachother, since one of my RTBs think she is a Anaconda, she spends tons of time in the bowl with my green, its very cute, and my bigger RTB will just back on the sides of the bowl watching them, or even get in some times. My Retic is more of a recluse, but he still hangs out from time to time. They are all about 2.5ft to 3.5ft and I keep it well heated and most of the time, they have access to the water bowl, I give them about 3 days with out it every time it gets soiled. They have never once showed aggression to eachother, and are all in perfect health. Its funny when they curl up together, they almost always keep there heads together or looking in the same direction. Once I get my camera, I will be taking plenty of pictures, trust me.

ok...im not going to get into this too much....i am just going to say that my green anaconda eats snakes and ALL green anacondas are going to get bigger than rtb's....i think you can fill in the rest. good luck though

No way? Anacondas get big? Retics get bigger! (LONGER, I know the Anaconda has the wieght record down tight)

First off, My MALE green is a tiny little guy, and the smallest of the bunch, second, if they start to dwarf each other, then obviously, I am going to get different cages for them, I am not stupid.

I feed my snakes a certain way to keep there sizes down, and so far so good.

ok...you dont have to be all mean...the point was...anacondas will eat other snakes...and a reputable anaconda breeder has told me he has seen snakes the same size eat each other. even MALE anacondas get big...yes, bigger than a redtail boa. I wasnt questioning your snake knowledge..i would hope you have a bit of experience keeping the 2 largest snakes in the world. i am not one to say much about putting snakes in the same cage..i actually dont think it is usually the biggest deal in the world...but i dont trust anacondas about eating stuff any more than i trust a cornered mojave wont bite.

I was not trying to be rude or mean, just a defense mechanism I have always had when people think I do not know what I am talking about. I understand that any snakes may eat eachother, but I know people have own both cats and dogs, and we all know about that. Like DFR said, Herpoculture is a relative new science, publicly, at least, and nothing is for certain.

Whenever all of us guys and gals argue about stuff, we should all remember, 99% of people think we are stupid for even letting a Anaconda into our houses.
