anyone use lights rather then a UTH to heat the cage?

mom2autumnnreign Apr 09, 2004 05:22 PM

I have a UTH but its starting to be a pain in the butt....and she never goes to the side w/ it on there...I know bright lights bother them....but does anyone use a infared bulb or blacklights to heat their cages????...I'm worried shes going to get burned on the UTH or never go over there....I already have a lamp and a moon glow light for night time...I could get a infared bulb for day....what does everyone reccommend?

I use a repti light during the day , and I use an infra red light at night.. never used UTH and never had a problem. now i'm building a tank and dont have the uth option so i'm sticking with lights.

If the uth is running hot you need a reostat(basiclly a dimmer) or a thermostat to ajust the temp. You can find them online for pretty cheap.
I only use lamps over tanks I have during the winter when it is really cold to get the air a little warmer.

I use red lamps with rocks below to heat my tanks. The rocks are there for belly heat b/c they hold heat. Two of my light are ESU night reptile lights and the light they give off is hardly visible unless you look directly at the bulb or it is basically pitch black in the room. I also have a red 80W floodlight for my 20L...its actually quite bright...but my girls really don't seem to mind it. Supposedly reptiles don't see red light very well.

I use Exo-Terra brand blue lights, they give off lots of visible light, but my leo seems to like them better than the red ones.
