Dark color means stress and they do that to absorb heat when basking.Around their bodies is suppose to be 100.Make sure that rock doesnt get to hott and burn their feet, stomach,or tail.

thanks mate..i thought dark ment they were cold and i upped the wattage of bulb...2 of them are light coloured 2 are dark...but there feet are yellow..strange eh..when i had 40 watt bulb..all 4 were dark...now i put in 60 watt 2 are light 2 dark...and there now moving about the tank at speed etc..thats just in last 2 hours....when i had 40 watt in they were all just lazying round with eyes shut...now there brighter and far more alert...

It kinda does mean they are cold because when they are cold they darken up to try and get some heat and when they get hot they get lighter so they dont absorb as much heat.

Usually when people talk about basking spot temps they are referring to the surface temp of the basking spot. For young dragons I would suggest 105-110 degree surface temp at their basking spot.

im still none the wiser...do you mean it should be 105 if i lay thermo down on rock..or 105 if i put in something bout height of dragons then lay thermo on that???????????

If you are using a digital thermometer the probe should be placed on the surface of the basking spot. The best way i've found is to use an IR thermometer which measures the surface temp of anything it is aimed at.
