I don't me a downer...and I don't have a problem with people feeding pinky's or adult mice or anything like that (I wouldn't have a problem feeding them myself...)...but I just don't see why you need to get so excited about you mouse having babies so you can feed them to your leos...lol I personally think mice are adorable little critters. I honestly wouldn't have a big problem feeding them...but I don't think I'd get so excited about it...it won't bother you at all feed the little babies your mouse had to your leos?...

That's okay.. I know it seems really sadistic that I'm this excited about the babies being born - especially since they're only being fed to the leos.

I'm excited because I'm easily amused, I guess. I have been waiting impatiently for these mice to have babies, and they've FINALLY popped!

So YEAH I'm excited! I love to see babies - even if they're gonna get fed.

I love my mice, but I won't have any problem feeding the babies to the leos.. I've done it MANY times before with the ones from the store.

Thanks for the concern, though!!

Oh! And the mom finally got up to get some food.

There are 8 of them!!!!

My dwarf hamster only had 4 (yeah, my sisters wouldn't let me feed those babies to the leos... *sigh* j/k). So 8 is surprising.

mice are some big time producers...lol Did your sister happen to feed the mother hampster cat food or anything else high in protein?...if not she may have eaten some of the babies and that may be why there were only 4...I had a regular hampster (for lack of a better name...lol) that had 9 babies. I don't know if it works the same for mice...but I know hampsters will eat their babies if they aren't fed something high in protein like cat food...that's what I fed my hampster.

I just wanted to pass on a warning that someone else gave me a while back:

Apparently it is bad to feed your mice, crix, or mealworms dog or cat food that contains red dyes. This person said that it stays in the feeders system and can be deadly to reptiles. I’ve stopped using dog/cat food to my feeders, just to avoid the risk. I’ve been looking for all-natural dog food, but have yet to find one I like. It may be just be a myth, but I like to play things safe. Maybe someone has some insight into the effects of ingesting red dye has on reptiles; I’d really like to hear it!

Thanks for the warning. I know when I got pregnant, there were certain dyes that I had to stay from, like the stuff in Mountain Dew.

I've never fed cat food to my mice, though. I have this huge back of hamster food, so guess what they get spoiled on? Plus the occassional mealworms - they love those things!

Thanks for imparting some knowledge! I dont' have hampsters anymore...and I didn't have any reptiles then...the hampsters were solely pets. All I know is the mother's need to be fed something high in protein...someone told me catfood so that's what I used.

lol My dwarf hamsters are solely for pet purposes... My sisters would have killed me if I'd tried to feed the babies to my leos!

But I'm going to have some very happy leos once my pinkies are ready!!!

Actually, only have 4 babies is normal for a Dwarf hamsters - they're smaller, so they can't physically handle more than that - no room. The mom's had no reason to eat them - she gets hamster food and high protein stuff. She has been extremely spoiled lol (If anyone wants a Russian Dwarf Hamster, just ask)

lol and Yeah I can see now why people don't want mice infesting their homes - multiply like crazy!! And the male is already trying to get the new mom preggers again!! Man!!

lol...4 babies doesn't surprise me for a dwarf hampster...I was just sayin'. don't most people feed their hampsters hampster food though?...lol I don't think its high enough in protein for new mom's...they're going to have different nutritional needs than others. I don't know...I could be wrong...but I think they still should have an additional source of protein...although now it seems cat food should be avoided...

LOL Girl, someday, I'm going to have to visit you at feeding time. My students think I'm sadistic because I enjoy sitting there and watching the pinkies get eaten. I don't have any snakes, though (I'm lucky enough to have as many leos as I have), so I don't get to mess with the bigger animals!

Oh! It was so cute last night - I walked in to check on them, and the male was lying on top of them, keeping them warm I guess, while the mom was eating! It was SO sweet!!! I almost feel bad that I'm going to take them away in a minute!!!

mice are evil canibalistic biting peeing and pooping animals. i love rats though... they are sweeties

sometimes when i get my feeders for my snakes (which come already frozen) i find myself talking to the dead frozen rat saying "you sure are cute and and its a shame your dead but oh well my snakes are hungry" LOL
i like feeding white rats only the onces with color make it harder even though they are already dead because i imagine them alive and cute and whatnpot.... buit then my snake slithers by and im l9ike well sucks to be you but snake is hungry and is looking for something JUST about your size heheh
