Thinking about getting a lizard

janome Apr 09, 2004 07:21 PM

Hey lizard people! I'm usually on the snake forums since I have 4 snakes but was wondering about lizards. I have a jungle carpet python in a 40 gallon breeder size tank. In the future my snake will need a bigger tank so I was wondering if any lizard would live comfy in it. I was thinking of the bearded dragons. I don't like iguanas (sp?) and I don't want anything that will get big. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi, well, 40 gallon is actually small for an adult bearded dragon, fine for a juvey, but atleast a 55 for a single adult
(min.)

They are very nice I have a 6 year old, extremely friendly !

If your looking for smaller lizards that are very tame when handled, you could have a trio of collared lizards in there. They are magnificently colored.

I have about 16 as pets, love them ! Here is a yellowhead male, most of my others are more turquoisey. This guy is more aqua blue.

There are so many beautiful colors !

Good luck with you quest, hehehe let us know what you decided on !

Oh! Those are very pretty and cute! Now what do they need as far as furnishings? Do they need a heat sorce? Probably a UV light right? What do they eat? How much do they cost to buy. I don't want to get into breeding anything so if I had a trio like you suggested could they all be males or females? I would imagine the males would fight. Thanks for your reply.

Collareds need basking rocks, and a place to sleep or hide, usually rock, very secured on another rock, as they can dig and collapse rock on them.

Playsand, yes, they need basking light and uvb ! Water dish !

They eat crickets, superworms, small bugs ! They are extremely active, acrobatic, fun to watch, and get very tame, if handled.

If you are not interested in breeding, than NO, do not get a trio of male and 2 females, ehheheh !

Females can live fairly peacable together. Or one male if you are looking for super color.

I have alot of lizards I think make nice pets, collareds just being one species.

Beardies are real cool, chuckwallas, BTS, leopard geckos make nice pets ! Just do some research on some, you will find one you want !

hey how ya doin'?
you'd probably enjoy:
uromastyx or beardies. They're both great pet's.
I don't know about beardies but uromastyx are VEGETARIANS! i'ts real cheap for food. they're fun to have because you can also feed them the occasional crickets and its funny watching them run all over the cage. quick little creatures. They're also not too big about 15" the uro and a bit bigger the beardie.
Enjoy your lizard!
