cost of maintaning hf's

snakeman5124 Apr 09, 2004 09:01 PM

hey everyone,
I am thinking about getting a baby pac man frog. I was just wondering how much it costs per week for like a full grown pac man? I know most sites say how much and all but i just want to know about how much per month you guys spend on you hf's including food, subtrate, lights and any miscelanious stuff.

THx in advance J Kaiser

It depends on how big your collection is. I buy in bulk so I save on everything from food to substrate. But then my collection is relatively large. Really I wouldn't expect to spend more than maybe 10 dollars a month on one horned frog. I spend an average of maybe 5. For an adult figure a mouse every two weeks or so or a comparable amount of crickets and whatever the cost of substrate is.

Remember that these guys can live a long time. Mine is going on 9 years now. So remember that the cost will continue for a while. Nonetheless its worth it as these guys are relatively easy to care for.

Here's what I paid:
Originally:
$25 for frog
$8 for 10-g tank
$5 water dish
Monthly:
$5 for forest-bed substrate bricks
Weekly:
$2 nightcrawlers
Rarely: a few bucks for crickets
Crickets are about 12 for a dollar around here. I guess it depends on where you live, or if you buy in bulk vs. from a pet store, what you'll pay.

And humans are supposed to be the world's most intelligent, civilized, and refined species, eh? Have you ever been in a crowded discount store?

I was just wondering what percent of the time you feed your frogs each week. EX. you feed 1/2 earth worms 1/4 crickets 1/4 mealies. Thanks again
