I was wondering if anyone knows or has links to information about gene locus in ball pythons. For instance, are the genes coding for pastel color on the same chromosome as genes coding for piebald color or axanthic color?

You know, I'm almost obsessed with the notion of chromosome linking in snake morphs but as far as I can tell all known snake morphs assort independently except for bugeyedness and leucism in Texas ratsnakes, possibly. I honestly don't think enough people think about the possibility. Hope that changes, ball pythons would be the snake to do it.

There are so many ball python mutations and with a limited number of chromosomes we are bound to find two mutations on the same chromosome eventually. However, we are so early in the process of crossing the ball mutations that I don't think anyone has had a chance to find linking yet. For that matter, I wouldn't be surprised if we find a case or two where two mutations are alleles.
