Terrible fighting

lostkauze Apr 09, 2004 09:04 PM

I went into my room today to feed the babies, and two of my breeders, both female, started going at each other. OMG this was the worst fighting I've ever seen. Luckily no one was hurt or bleeding, except for me, and I'm glad I have fat fingers otherwise I'm sure they would have gone after me. I'm so flustered right now its not even funny. I took my male out to give him time away from the girls because he wasn't doing his thing 2 days ago. So I put a girl in his cage, but he doesn't seem interested. I'd rather safe leos then hurt ones. Wow, I'm so dazed right now, it was such a horrible scene, seeing your two girls go at it like enemies, it was so strange.

Sorry, just had to tell someone. I went about this in the right fassion, correct? I hope all is well.

Michael

Hi

Yes, that was a good idea to split them up and putting one of the females in with the male was just fine. I leave my male in with my females all the time with no problems.

Maybe this seperation of the two girls will give you time to figure out why or what they were fighting over.

I don't know, but I'm thinking food. I'll get another bowl and have 2 bowls of food to stop the fighting once I re-introduce in a few days.

I have had some young females get a little nippy at each other because one accidently mistook the other's tail for food. Those tails really wiggle sometimes! The another explanation is if you have a "hot" female. Sometimes when eggs are incubated at about 90 degrees (f) the offspring is a female that is more aggressive. Usually they are infertile & get pretty big too. Are your females comparable in size? Are they in a large enough enclosure? It could be the food issue as well. Or maybe they are fighting over your male...that would be interesting! Good luck with your girls.

No the tank is absolutely huge. I think the fighting was due to food. These girls have lived with each other for 2 years, I think there just just bad karma between the two.

Hi

Here is another thought, while you are keeping them apart for awhile, why don't you think of rotating the girls between the two tanks until you put them back together, so as not to take a chance on territorialism. Just a thought.

Yeah I was going to do that. The girl I put by herself didn't seem to happy so I was going to rotate them.
