snake drinking

jtclark Apr 09, 2004 10:38 PM

I have read on here before that you probably won't ever see your snake drink water. I just fed Cosmo again tonight and like usual when I put him back in his tank he went straight to his fresh water and puts his head in and drinks. It is so obvious that he is drinking. It's like watching my dog after a long walk. Is this normal and I just seem to remember one post that they don't drink or is Cosmo a freak?

i catch my corn drinking once in a while. its usually after handling that he sneeks over and grabs a few sips. i'm sure its normal...right guys? i'd rather see him drinking often than never see him drinking at all... heh.

My corn snakes drink like camels! When they are going to shed they seem to be very thirsty. When I put them back in their cage, I always hold them over their water dish to see if they are interested.

Are you from Indy? I am down in Bloomington. I just went to the show in Indy in January for some frozen mice. Just curious.

Yes, I am. Bloomington is a pretty city. How did you like the show?

Wasn't overly impressed. I posted about it here after the show and it sounds like that was just a bad weekend to be there. I plan on going back in either may or june because I heard it is a much better show that time of year.

IndyShark Apr 10, 2004 07:46 PM

The best show is in late summer. I don't think May or June were that great last since most of the hatchlings have not hatched yet. The breeder expo is the best. I think that is in August or September

Quite often, I hold my corn over his water dish to see if he wants a drink. Often times, he takes a few gulps of water. If this isn't normal, jtclark, then we must all have freaks!!!

Several of my snakes always wash their food down with a big gulp of water. I don't know who said that you wouldn't catch yours drinking but that's simply not true.

Sybella Apr 10, 2004 12:46 AM

It's so rhythmic (spell?) and hypnotizing. I could sit and watch them drink for hours.

freezermink Apr 10, 2004 01:19 AM

haha i know, i always stare like its some incredible feat that they are actually drinking water. it is mesmorizing... man i'm a dork. heh.
