female ball with her belly in the sky........gravid, or about to ovulate?

boastud Apr 10, 2004 12:13 AM

Did i miss the ovulation and she is gravid, or is this a sign of her about to ovulate? Also, how many days on average after p.o.s till she lays?

I have males that do it. I have females that are 4 months old that do it after a big meal. I've had females do that and not lay eggs that year.

That is a loaded question in the biggest sense that I don't think anyone could answer except the person observing the snake every day.

This female did this for 3 months straight last year and no eggs. She ovulated this year and laid eggs a month ago.

Last year:

This year:

22-35 days after POS is when they lay. 26 days is by FAR the most common length of time for me.

I'm sure your correct about the inverted with no eggs~ but I think you confused the pics you put up to show it. The inverted snake in the top photo is not the same snake with eggs in the bottom two photo's. Look at the very first "saddle" (dorsal marking) behind her head. The snake in the first photo has an elongated first saddle. The other two photo's are of a snake with a small roundish saddle with two "Alien eyes".

BTW~ Does any one happen to know if there are propper names for the "Saddles" or the "Alien eye's" or the side "Blotches"?

If I didn't read incorrectly, I think that was the point. The top picture was from last year, the inverted female had no egg.

I thought he was saying it was the same female two years in a row. First year she inverted, but no eggs. Second year she laid eggs.

Could be I misunderstood though. Been known to happen!
