New England Reptile Expo -- Lele and other NEnglanders

iwana Apr 10, 2004 04:55 PM

Hi everyone,

Justin and I just came back from the Expo and found the critters we wanted. We got a male crested gecko and a pair of baby Nelson's milksnakes. :-D

Lele, there were plenty of beautiful gold dust geckos -- Reptile Kingdom had a bunch for $15/each (I think) as well as a lot of white lined geckos for about the same price.

I've also often heard on this forum (I think from Lele and/or from other people) that the NE Expo never has a great selection of chameleons. RJ's Exotics seem to have a pretty good selection; don't know if you guys ever heard of them. They had Panthers (ambilobe, nose be), Mellers, spineys, Jacksons and veileds, and probably others. As he stated, "they have tons." So maybe that's one to check out. They had great set-ups for them, all kept in aluminum cages with real plants, compared to other vendors who cram their lizards in tiny little deli cups.

We also saw this adult black iguana -- I think it was called a spiny iguana -- that was being sold for $75, but it was in really poor shape. Very, very skinny and dehydrated, but it was so beautiful. If I wasn't getting ready to adopt an adult male iguana, I probably would have negociated a price and taken him home. *sigh*

Anyway, just thought I'd share our findings. LOL

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the update - wish I could have gone, but I actaully really enjoyed my class today! I keep finding gold dust geckos for $40 and up! I will check out Reptile Kingdom and see if I can order online.

When I went last year the cham pickings were slim. I wasn't looking to buy one there I had JUST gotten Luna like a week or two before, but was looking to see what was there. Sounds like they had a lot more this year!

They did have a better selection, but we ran into traffic, so when I got there only one jax was left! By the time I figured that out, somebody had already bought him. And I didn't want to just pick something else up that I didn't know exactly how to care for. But I got my two corns, so I'm happy.

My s.o. kept trying to get me to buy him a water monitor!
