i was told that vermiculite can be ingested by newly hatched babies and shouldn't be used for inc. medium??? any help.....

i have mine on vermic...i'm wondering if i should switch the babies over to something else or should i just leave em?

is there anything to worry about (as far as them eating the vermic?) before i can get them out.

Babies typically don't start eating for at least a day or two. I would think any ingested vermiculate was completely accidental and could happen regardless of the medium being used. I wouldn't loose to much sleep over it. I use perlite which is very similar.

I use that to incubate my eggs, but I always try to move them onto moist paper towels as they hatch... just to lower the risk.

They do get covered in the stuff when they hatch!
